Inktomi listings...

Inktomi has been crawling the web for a few months now....I see the Slurp bot coming out to my pages...I think it's going toward the free market again!

You can find out what your ranking is in my signature.

Actually forget the linking.... I just checked the logs of my static pages, and inktomi has been crawling them like crazy. So im praying for a high listing. Then i should be fine, even though google did screw my page over in the last dance...

But i guess it wasnt too bad, im the # 6 listing for banned commercials. Perhaps ill do better with inktomi... Its definetly time to pray to the search engine gods!

MSN and the way I optimize sites seem to work very well. If I can't get a high listing in Google for a site, I buy a listing in Inktomi. Some people might try this. I have found the success to be good. Where #1-#20 positions are guarenteed for a well optimized page.
In my experience, Msn likes incoming links and good beginning source code. Such as the title and description codes, and links near there. I would pay to submit any day.

I'm getting 'slurped' too, hadn't bothered checking for that until you mentioned it

it depends on what it costs to get into Inktomi I guess. My firm was using PositionTech to edit listings in Inktomi, and with Yahoo buying Inktomi, it's probably a good idea to get in there now while you can (before they raise the price)

It's usually best to pay attention to the search term you're looking to get first. On MSN, Inktomi listings start after LookSmart. Some of my clients can't get an Inktomi listing until the 30th or 40th position for really popular terms- in fact, for one of them the Inktomi listings don't start until #200! You have to pay LookSmart to get higher, it's pay-per-click, it's pricey and there are no guarantees of placement. But the good news is that many of those nice "search phrases" that may bring you highly targeted visitors don't have any LookSmart directory listings associated.

I realized the other day that the free LookSmart listing deal will be completed in a few months. I suspect that many of those LookSmart listings will be going away then.

J-net,

I do agreed about the Looksmart listings. Some good keywords are not bothered by this but some are, and it annoying to have a good listing but be #200 after Looksmart and all the money making linkage blah that goes on.
I look forward to the new agreements for Looksmart and hope it will make a difference.
Another thing to note is the Inktomi listings are pulled several different ways when people search. Not always are the looksmart listing positioned so that it dwarfs your listings.

Great update thanks.

Ben
