Inktomi for the new year

Ok Guys I've ignored it too long, Inktomi will IMO eventually play a much larger role in our day to day tracking of "serps" and so I ahve started testing at http://www.seo-tests.com/optimizing-inktomi-tests.html the first test a simple meta keywords test is just the first of many if your interested in the results stay tuned. I will post them on www.seo-tests.com, here at www.seochat.com and at our new blogspot the www.seroundtable.com for which I am the SEO Author.

If you have suggestions for testing please PM me, email me or throw a note in paper airplane form (Throw real hard im in Canada) or if you have success stories, inside info or questions please post away.

Remember, Yahoo owns Ink, MSN is dropping Looksmart and lots of people (Webmasters mostly) are not happy with the present we got from the big G
Cheers

Guy,

I noticed you had no commas between your keywords, is this an intentional technichue? How is it looked upon in the SEO field?

I have some interesting stuff to add based on todays conference sessions, please be sure to check the blog. I will try to place the excerpts here. Give me about 4 hours to get everything down and then posted. Lots of future search engine stuff to summarize for you folks.

I am also working on my own Google Florida Update article (started it on the flight to Chicago, hope to conclude on the flight back to New York).

Hi seo guy!

Great, I am happy someone is seeing this. It would be great to start getting some ideas on what is happening at inktomi, what we should do or work on to generate visits etc.

One question I have (yes, I have neglected this too long too) is how deep inktomi will go when crawling a site. Can it bring up database generated content with ? in the url? What is needed to get it to do this?

Last but not least, can you get decent results for different pages without paying!!?? If you submit your url, will the spider go deeper??

Any advice is appreciated!

Sam

Sam I Am,

Will the spider go deeper? The answer is yes, eventually. Usually from 4 months to 6 month after you first submit. I only ever pay for the home page to be included.

Hi Derryt,

Thanks for that. If your home page is already indexed, will it matter if you pay? Will you be indexed deeper if you pay is my question I guess

I spent some hours this afternoon looking at the inktomi and different sites, options etc. but there is still plenty I can learn I guess. From the results I am seeing I am not seeing any really deep database generated results, but maybe that is just me.

I'm in a bit late on this thread but I can definitely see the jump in traffic.. and the spidering while not as hungry as google is visiting with about the same frequency...

Happy TB Here.

Sam,
Ink seems to like it if you submit lots of your pages (You can do this for free here) http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm try to get your main cats in there and hope that they spider the rest from there. I've seen your site and I dont advise submitting them all (That would take years
Good luck

Thanks Morgan, that's good to know, I will submit another few pages to them and see how it goes. The strange thing is that ink does visit daily as far as I can tell - we are just terrible in their serps though!!!

Hence my question about payment. Does anyone know if it helps if you pay? They do seem to hint towards this but there are no outright claims... more about sites that pay being visited more often, being updated more etc.

More tips are welcome; this is a good learning session and it will be worthwhile to put time into this now!

I've got a few sites that do well in Inkomi that weren't paid for.

I personally dont think that the paid vs natural help in rankings, however it helps in guaranteed refresh every 48 hours so you can tweak you content and see the results a lot faster.

Some of my sites have good results already on Ink. Others are nowhere to be found. I've never paid, so I think that speaks well of the possibiliites.

Looking forward to seeing the test results, since I'd like to work more on Ink.

Hi Diana,

Is there any difference you can think of between the sites that could make one stand out more than the other? Or can you let us know the urls so we can have a look?

Thanks,

Sam

The only memorable difference to me is the number of links to the sites. The site doing well on Ink has about 50+ backlinks (per Goog) and the other about 25.

I just finished redesigning the site not doing well there and am preparing to do the other one, as I've never been satisfied with either site.

PS Content did change slightly on 'studio.
