Simple question newbie
When I research my competitors, most of their backlinks are links from within there own site. Why is this, and how come internal links from my site do not count in Googles eyes?
This is my first post, so bear with me. |

Most likely because those pages are PR4 and above. Will will display internal pages that are linked to the homepage (for example) if the PR is high. Welcome to SEOChat. |

Thanks PK -
I figured it was a rewarding of the successful situation. Another quick one... My site product pages end like "...com/product.asp?prodid=12345". I know Google does not display the pr for "cgi" scripting pages...is this really hurting my landing pages in google's eyes, or do they just not display the pr in the google toolbar? I know the pages are indexed by google. My homepage is pr4, but I have no gauge on my specific product pages (which are crucial for my business). |

Those pages are dynamic so there is a 50/50 chance those pages are indexed. Google has no problems with CGI scripting as long as the params are short (?prodid=12345 is a param incase your wondering) Apply a mod_rewrite to remove the params at the end of the URL and make sure all your pages can be indexed properly. Also if you aren't seeing any PR (grey bar) than the page isn't indexed and has no value. A rewrite would help. Submit your site in the Site Review section of SEOChat so everyone can take a look if you want. |

Great info, thanks PK. I saw my competetor already rewrites, and I've found some resources to get this accomplished for my site.

I use this way:
Type www.yourname.com in the search box. Then you will have a line like Find web pages that link to www.yourname.com Click on that link to will get links. Last edited by fathom : July 1st, 2004 at 06:22 AM. Reason: Intentional link spam |

This may or may not "show all backlinks" on other search engines but, on Google it very well may not. There are considerably more backlinks where the sites/pages are registered/indexed and still do not show as backlinks via the option you specify. I have used Uptimebot and other tools and find them considerably more accurate than the link to option on Google. IMHO. |

A technique that will show some more sites linking to you is to write in the search box
http.//www.your*domain*here.com (Note, there is a dot, instead of the colon after the http part) This will find any page linking to you through your URL. (even if PR is less than 4) It will not show pages linking to you with an anchor text, though. But, it is still useful! |
