Does anyone get any meaningful traffic from AltaVista and AlltheWeb SE's compared to MSN, Y, and G?

it depends, if you have multi language site, local search engine's can bring a lot of traffic, i got 500/month from 1 russian SE, thats better then msn and yahoo

So far this month for this site, which was in Google's sandbox until late last month... slowly coming out... but in the past year I have been lucky to tie into some rankings at MSN.

Google and MSN have different ranking criteria. Google relying mainly on linkage and MSN seeming (at least from what I see) strongly influeced by onpage factors and anchor text.

There are 'ways' to get around that. Well, kind of. At least you can make sure that the images show up on an Image Search, but that people can't get to them directly from the search engines...

I don't mind google images giving me traffic but if I see my images on another site or on ebay I take action. I've filed a number of complaints at ebay (most of them against the same guy! They shut down his auctions and he behaves for a while then back to stealing my images.) Have also gone after website owners who use them - one was a radio station, another was a popular news blog - they took them down right away when I complained.
