Another wierd twist ...

Being the inquisitive person that I am (in terms of watching my server logs) ... Has anyone else noticed an unusually high # of hits from Scooter (Altavista) the past 24 hrs ?

In particular, 3 sites that I have, that Scooter has never went past index.htm, all followed the EXACT same crawling pattern that freshbot did less than 24 hrs earlier ...

Rather spooky to me ... Then again ...

If anyone is interested, I will post pics of the readouts from Who'sOn to prove exactly what I just said ... Then again, if what I am thinking is correct, I won't need to :-D

Yikes,

just checked my logs and I agree Scooter's really moving. Instead of regular daily Scooter 3.3_SF hits, I'm seeing 3.2 doing some nice crawling.

However, it's not following freshbots footsteps.

At this very moment, Scooter is doing a "deep crawl" (by Scooter standards) on 11 of my sites ... IP: 216.39.48.* ...

Hmmm ... Didn't Google buy Altavista not too long ago ?

Same thing is happening again right now ... Googlebot crawled a number of pages earlier at one of my sites; now Scooter is crawling the exact same list of pages ...

Someting funny is going on here ...

It was Overture who bought Altavista, for $140 million if I'm not mistaken.

I think that this could be the start of the enhancement of Altavista, albeit big steps still need be taken!

I have recevied a lot of interest from users of the SpyderTrax program saying that they have seen an unusual level of crawlings from Scooter ... I noticed it myself a few days ago.

I'm seeing exactly the same sort of thing.

2500 hits from freshbot (hopefully see some pages re-indexed )

1500 hits from scooter 3.2

similar activity earlier.

However have seen this level of activity before from scooter.

Anyone any idea how long the delay normally is before altavista updates after crawl
