Question Why the internet users don't want to have alternative SEs???

I noticed that the search engines market don't stand still, new alternative search engines are launched day by day (see at Altsearchengines.com), however the most part of them has no chance to coexist with the market dominant - Google, that either prevents flow of funds for alt SEs promotion or "eats" them.

For the last 5 years Google became a part of internet users' online life, it now exists in all areas of internet market, such as web search, ads, e-mails, etc. It even leaves far behind such internet companies as Yahoo and Microsoft.

The key reason of Google's dominance is its demand and widely usage. So, we became to the subject. Why do the internet users mostly prefer to use Google, even Live and Yahoo, but they don't want to know about the technological achievements, alternative search engines, etc.???

Let's brainstorm.

Many new search engines just call themself search engines and work to show Google AdSense search results...

The problem is... everyone wants to take 0.0001% of Google bulti billion pie.

Wow nice topic..Actually all i can think off is..

1. New engines need time for exposure to establish, and by the time they do so, the exisiting ones jump onto some other technology.

2. The promotion for alternative SE's is real tough. You are competing with big brands, and perhaps cannot expect the results in a year or so.. it can take upto or even more 6 long years to build up to that level.

3. Search engines do not rely on Internet marketing techniques, but they survive on how well are they marketed. All you have to focus while doing so, is to build a brand name in the industry. Having a decent media exposure shall make things easy.

4. You cannot forget names like Ask, Search.com and metacrawler etc , they did rise up well with time. Search engines come into lime light due to its SERPS.

A typical example is/was : "Miserable Failure" .. google was into lime light and was always a topic of discussion amongst SEO's. Well such things do nothing but create a VIRAL Impact and thus spreading information like it happens in viral marketing. Alternative SE's need to be a topic of good discussion, should have good offerings, unique features and above all.. User friendly viewing with plain interfaces adn easy to use navigation.

5. Small and alternative SE's are actually OK, but they cannot keep up in the industry due to another reason and that is, Failure to update themselves as soon as major engines do. For example, Earlier google used to derive a lot of traffic with the LINK command and now YAHOO has it all..

Bottom Line is: If alternative maintain certain standards, they can for sure rise up.. After all google started in a garage. what more can u think off? A proper insight and vision is always compulsory.

IMO many Search Engines are not credible to give a valid information.

Users' Habits: It is users' habits that determined the values and worthiness of the search engines. The search engines that have made into the top (e.g. top 5) have been around in our lives for many years. Good examples are Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live/Bing, Baidu in China, and Yandex in Russia. These big search engines have already embedded into part of users' lives!

Search Algorithms: Search Engines' algorithms determine how good a search engine is. With great algorithms, search engines provide great search results.
