Skibop.com guarantees listing within 48 hours??
SkiBop.com claims they will include URL (with a description of your site, including keywords) in their directory within 48 hours for $10/yr. I'm wondering if I should save up $300 for Yahoo directory listing or submit to a bunch of sites like Skibop? Or maybe splurge and do a combination of all?

I'm guessing that it's your new directory... either way, who cares if it's listed in 48hrs if it's on an page that Google doesn't even know exists.

No such luck, buddy ... I'm an SEO consultant. I saw this site mentioned on one of the other forums. Actually, it is in Google .. type "skibop.com" ... must be a new site b/c Google has it cached as "coming soon" from GoDaddy. For $10/yr who cares if every single page in Google isn't indexed? I figure it's money well spent to show new (anxious) SEO clients that they're in at least ONE search engine within a week of them paying me. If a client is paying me an average of $500/mo they want some sense of comfort that I'm doing something right off the bat. Then 3-4 months later they can see results in Google. Besides, it's already indexed in Yahoo ... are you sure your puter was connected to the internet when you did that search?? lol Last edited by wc3player : January 13th, 2006 at 01:28 PM. |

In my opinion (I run a few directories myself), you can spend that 300 bucks and get anywhere from 20-40 quality links at various paid directories on the web charging anywhere from a few bucks to the 10 or 15 dollar range. If all you are after is a backlink and some PR then, spend that money somewhere other than Yahoo. You will get ALOT more out of it. |

You may or may not see any results in Google but that will depend on what they do with the directory but to pay for a link on a site that's not in the index and has no listings is not the brightest strategy IMO. You can find hundreds of similar new direcrories that will gladly give you one way links for free because they want to avoid having duplicated pages. I tend to show my clients things that have value more than those that don't, but again... that's just my preference. |

Good point, I guess it depends on each client and what their expectations are. I try to explain to clients that a good SEO program takes 6 months before any results show up, but once in awhile you get the PITA (Pain In The A**) client that wants immediate results ... lol |

Sorry, but links on non indexed pages aren't gonna get you any results long or short term... I'm not a big believer in pr related to serps but don't understand why anyone would ever recommend buying a link on a non indexed page unless the site stats/overall strength of the site demonstrated that it had some value. I do recommend a decent number of paid directories but none are pr0.
As far as directories seeking paid links before they're indexed let alone have decent pr. Phew... I don't get it. |

I use Yahoo Directory (Search Engine category) to find new search engines- skibop is listed there (as a new site) with a bunch of similar ones. I figure for a chance to get my client's URL (via a smaller search engine) indexed in Yahoo before the site itself is indexed in Yahoo (hope it makes sense?), ten bucks sounds kinda cheap. Obviously, I pass the cost on to the client so it doesn't cost me anything. If I wanted to, I could tack on an additional admin premium for each submission to these smaller search engines/ directories, but right now I only charge actual cost. There's about 300 sites listed, I advise my clients to submit to as many as their budgets can afford: http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/World_Wide_Web/Searching_the_Web/Search_Engines_and_Directories/wp_S/?o=a Last edited by wc3player : January 20th, 2006 at 11:48 AM. |

There are quite a few good and free directories <-- worth submitting;
There are quite a few good directories that require a small payment (generally less than 15 USD for one year or life time) <-- worth submitting; But submitting to a brand new directory; that's not even properly indexed by all SEs doesn't sound like a good deal to me...

Besides Yahoo Dir, can u recommend top 10 paid directories (PPI, not PPC)? It's tough setting an SEO budget for each client but I'm trying to standardize it ... thanks! |

Methinks these guys are owned by Google- or at least getting some financing from them to test getting into PPI market. Similar GUI ... and a Wall St. address (see Alexa for their info). Far enough from Mountainview, CA but close to the big banks .... hmmmm. But don't say you heard it from me ;) |
