The only reason I started using Looksmart is becuase of MSN

I just hope MSN will not use any other PPC (Dream... Dream...) instead or put in in another place so we will not end up in first position for unpaid results but in the third page......

Can't say I am sorry, always thought their (MSN and LookSmart) model was poor and it was never clear to user exactly what results they were getting.

Should be interesting to see what MSN come up with - willl their ow search engine be ready by January?

No. They will not be replacing Inktomi with their own SE for a while yet. They are just dropping LookSmart/Zeal. This will effectively promote Inktomi's importance on MSN for roughly a year or so.

I see, so I guess we should be looking to get our rankings on Inktomi up. I remember reading somewhere that the 'true' Inktomi results are available via: http://www.hotbot.com - is that correct?

hmmm...i'm number one for my kw phrase in google, but not in the top 300 in inktomi. am i going to mess around with my site to try and rank in inktomi, and possibly screw up my ranking in google? no way! if and when inktomi ever competes with google in terms of traffic, i'll consider it. but until then, i'd rather have all my eggs in a basket that gets seen by everyone. bad business to put all your eggs in one basket? i suppose...but i sure don't plan to screw up that basket by playing with inktomi right now.

Couldn't agree more, however, some of our sites are accessed more by people using MSN (just the way it is) so it makes sense to try to get a good ranking, which is hard as things stand now without throwing money at the deal.

Rumor has it that MSN will be dropping LookSmart results from their UK site within the next few days.

It does. Inktomi powers MSN et al. That is what, 15-30% of the market, depending upon country. Surely, looking for a few ways to get better Inktomi traffic is vital. IMHO, the oft quoted Google stats don't add up. Natural Google listings are confined to Google, with a few others from AOL and Yahoo, but only after Overture results By and large. IMHO, ranking on Inktomi is pretty easy, so mmaybe you should have a look at it!!!!

OK, in which case 'how do you get good rankings on Inktomi without dropping on Google?' Generally our sites are page 1 on Google and page 2 on Inktomi.

True Inktomi Results Are Found AT -
If I'm not mistaken the Hotbot results are not the true Inktomi results but a blend. For the actual Inktomi output as they would rank I believe you need to go to -

thanks for the tip albuck. good to know - especially since i am number 3 in the true inktomi results but number 19 in the hotbot results. made me smile.
