How to get top 15 in MSN

Ok, I have had a very good experience lately with optimizing for MSN. So good in fact that is blast a lot of my previous work before in terms of traffic and sale conversion.
I achieved top #15 in MSN.com for the keyword 'harry potter', which according to overture gets searched about 658,000 times a month. So traffic has been overwhelming for sure. Server crashed 2nd day.

What I did was developed a very optimized page, no spamming, but your good form or optimization. Got some links for other quality sites, and submitted the site to Zeal.com. I am a contributing editor, and the site was completely applicable and conformed to quidelines. Next the listed the site, using good anchor text. The site was listed, and within 15 days after being listed in directory, I got my results.

I wanted to share this, because people need to know the importance of some directories, link DMOZ, Zeal, Joeant, Gimspy, and more. They do help in ranking websites.

Directories are very important, but I have a little problem with my pages, because my pages are all in german and there are only 3 big directories with a high-PR.

Another thing I noticed was that if you paid MSN's Submit It service, they have a optimizer tool that basically gives you all the tips you need to make sure you are top ten for your selected keywords (assuming they are not incredibly difficult such as "phones", etc.) I followed their guidelines and am now #2 on MSN for my main keyword.

zeal rocks for results in MSN, which isnt surprising as it is basically the free end of Looksmart.

Hmm.. well might want to ask Webby on that one, he is all about the German end of things. But I would say any directory would be benefical as long as it accepts .de domain extensions.

Zeal is great, but it is quite difficult to get into if you site has the slightest bit of commercial content. Paying for inclusion is a pain, because you also have to pay per click, and then it gets rid of your results in MSN web page section if you are in the directory. So this is the back door in a way for non-commerical sites. I have been able to score some good submissions though. If you check on Google's main page, you will see a link for "Language Tools". Its probably a highly visited page, but it was not in the directory. So I submitted it with a good description.

As always DMOZ is important to get into. Yet, I find myself each day getting more and more fed up in particular with the whole directory each time I submit.

Basically missing in your last are allesklar, which is important for MSN, and Bellnet as aminor one you might consioder submitting to. BTW, check out the urls in the links on Web.de. No PR passed on their I'm afraid :-(

Zeal only accepts non-commercial pages.

i believe you can now pay for inclusion directly at zeal---instead of going to looksmart

658000/30 = almost 22 000 a day

I would advise you to change hosting.
I once got server (home made) with few friends of mine, and we were submitting to polish SE, and after some time we got 100 000 hits per day from it (on a 512 kb/s cable), and everything was working perfectly.

I'm in adult business also so i know how overwhelming traffic can be

Piel, would you mind posting that top10 list? I've never seen the MS tips.

Is this submit form, http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm the official form to 'free' submit in MSN Search? Elsewhere all I see is the 'darn' looksmart looklisting (paid inclusion in MSN Search Directory)
