Best Search Engine for Research

I am getting involved in working for a company that works with Geo-Spatial products and although I am not fully aware of the nature of the research that I will be conducting; I am curious about different free search engines that can dredge up a lot of statistical and demographic data. I want to go beyond Google's Advanced search.

Also I have heard of alternative Search Engines that are supposedly "better" than Google, I will post the name of one I was referred to as soon as I can think of the name. Has anyone else heard of these alternative search engines that are deemed more accurate than Google, if so please share.

Primarily what I am getting at, is a plethora of the best databases and search engines so I can fully extend upon my research skills.

I look forward to reading your reply's and responding.

Research related searched usually needs highly targeted info and in large volumes. Kinda like searching for books in a library. I believe it's better to search for an 'ebook' that you can download. There's lots of rapidshared ebooks out there and some sites that list thousands of them in categories. The books will have targeted info and much better than sifting through web pages.

Wikipedia helps abit. Some basic info plus references, books that you can buy and all that.
