Anybody interested in Chinese search engines?
So, one of my goals is to get to know the Chinese search engines... I guess it's time to start working on this.
Is anybody on these forums interested in this? Do you know anything about it? |

I have interest in this. I feel that within a few years China is going to be a huge ( bigger than the US) online presence and that will give marketers millions of new customers to work with. I need to start learning more about it. It would be great if anyone had any insight to provide. |

Well, I don't know much but I'm going to start learning about it soon.
If there are at least some people on here that are interested in it too then I should come on and share what I find. |

It's good, but I think you must understand Chinese first,so you can go deep into your work... |

I was just thinking that. What's the point of trying to enter the Chinese SE market when you know nothing about the culture/language/etc? You may make the same mistake as MS, who, in the "country" section of their installation programs, said "Taiwan". In China, it's against the law to say that Taiwan is an independant country (that's why MS programs normally say "region" instead of "country" now) |

I'm interested in the development of Asia, China & Japan, Korea mainly.
I have a few Japanese directories & we get traffic from Chinese search engines. Also on my forum a lot of members are interested in the way China will adapt IDNs into their search scheme(results, parsing, ranking). |

Actually, I do speak Chinese... but I still have awhile to go before I can use the internet like a normal Chinese person. Are there any people on here that are from or in China?

It would be good to hear from some members that speak & read Chinese & may actually sometimes go to China..
I know that a lot of things are blocked from the internet so they may be blocked from the site in China. To know what they are doing & using in China is vital. I was in the US for a while but being back in Tokyo let's you think a bit like the average web user... |

I just came back to Tokyo late September. The amount of people who have broadband compared to 2 years before is astonishing. The thing is if they don't have the net at home usually people are surfing at work. I've asked people how are they doing online shopping & the very most common is not to do it with your credit card but to order online & get it C.O.D.. I think this sort of diminishes how it "Looks" that people are shopping online because they may not always use credit cards. |
