Amazon goes live with new SE
Well amazon is diving into the search engine world with...
www.a9.com It may only be in beta but it seems to have a few nice features (caches old searches, and a few other things), but you have to be logged into amazon for these to work (bothersome). What i found to be really interesting is you can directly search from the url bar using a9.com/"any search term here"... Which sure does beat the old methods. Lets see what kind of crunch this puts on google (probably none but hey, someone will have to upset the google god someday). Last edited by dastuff : April 14th, 2004 at 08:31 PM. |

All my keywords rank in the exact same position as in Google.
Does Google power this SE? |

Apparently so. According to http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5191661.html , "A9 is not powered solely by its own search technology but rather by that of Google, Amazon and Alexa, another Amazon subsidiary." |

John Battelle announced it on his blog.
http://battellemedia.com/archives/000575.php They actually used his blog as the first outlet for the story...cool PR move, the bloggers will generally give a faster and more honest feedback of the new search engine. |

I love blogs, they seem to have a great knowledge of the internet, and crazy sources. Was just trying to spread the info around. |

The integration of alexa information is nice...but it is still only a google clone

Well I wish Yahoo went back to being a Google clone. Those were the days. |

If this is the best Amazon can come up with they should dive straight back out of the search engine world again. For the keywords I tried the top serps were mainly directories and lots of irrelevant sites. ![]() |

whitey, they are using google for the search engine, so whatever you saw, you should see the same thing in google.
