W3C = World Wide Web Consortium

It's some sort of validation tool that helps you to validate your HTML, CSS and other documents based on the HTML / XHTML / CSS standarts. It tells you where you may have errors, conflicts etc.

For SEO - valid css/xhtml sites are a plus. Its not obligatory, but since your code has no errors, thats both for you, for the visitors and crawlers.

Well I don't know how excatly it checks your page. But I'm almost sure it sends some sort of a crawler to get the information right? Cause someone/something should see your site somehow, before validates it.

So probably someone has tried to use the validator on your site. I will investigate and update my post.
