    Sitemap.xml

In Google Webmaster Tools, once you have uploaded the sitemap.xml and confirmed that Google has found it - doesn't every time the spider come back it looks for that xml file and reads it again? I was told recently that you have to continue uploading it any time you make changes. Please advise.

you don't have to upload it everytime, unless maybe you change something on your site and update your sitemap.

Sorry, I need to clarify this. If I make changes to sitemap.xml, I will definitely re-upload them to my host server, but I had heard that I need to indicate that it has changed in Webmaster Tools again. That doesn't seem to be correct, since I would think the spider is going to look for the xml file every time and find the changes. Please confirm.

    sitemap.xml

If you have new changes in your website. Kindly update the sitemap.xml and upload to your server. Just Resubmit the Sitemap.xml in Google Webmaster and watch the indexing reports from google webmaster.

This is a question I have pondered as I have added new pages and changed the layout somewhat, looks like I'm going to have to update my sitemap

If it has links to it from a spidered page...it's not necessary...Google will hit it.

I would only resubmit your XML sitemap to WT when you remove pages.

In the case that you add a page, I would suggest updating and uploading your existing XML sitemap to your server each time you do.

This way you can give additional information to search engines about the page. i.e. priority, lastmod, etc.
