Microsoft URL Control - 6.00.8169
so what is the story with this...
I know some of you guys must have seen this in your logs... just picked this up on one of my sites under "web browsers used to visit"... Microsoft URL Control - 6.00.8169 Microsoft URL Control - 6.00.8862

Microsoft URL Control - could be anybody, friend or foe. I think this bot also looks for formmail.pl or cgi, to gain access to the website or collect email addresses. I have seen this snoop bot in my logs before and decided to disallow it with robots.txt. I believe you can stop this bot by .htaccess as well, but in order to avoid blocking to many visitors I haven't gone that far. You might do a whois check or reverse lookup on the IP or domain on where the bot is coming from, just to be sure. |

Just to ley you know, programmers (e.g. visual Basic) have
access to a number of controls which can be used in the development of software applications. Such controls include a web browser control, or something called the Internet Transfer Control (Inet) through which web pages and their html code can be downloaded. When an application/program using the above control accesses your page then it leaves the "Microsoft URL Control" footprint. John |
