GoogleBot Cloak visits more than GoogleBot

Hi,

I have observed that in the last one week, i see more visits for a bot named GoogleBot Cloak more than GoogleBot.

Its IPs are:
66.249.65.81
66.249.66.229
66.249.65.242

Does anyone got any information about this bot? whats this exactly? Does it Belong to the Google or any unknown bot? It has spidered 10 times more than the normal google bot. I dont understand. Need some thoughts.

this is googles bot to make sure you arent cloaking your website..in other terms cloaking is where you show your visitors one thing, and googlebot spider something different, so that you can rank higher for certain keywords.

That’s interesting, how can it do this unless it actually logs in and registers as a user. Some pages shouldn't be possible to visit / should look different, unless say, userType = member.

I’m interested to here more about this. Its sounds more feasible that it looks for redirects... But I know nothing about this bot

How may pages did GoogleBot Cloak, and what where the urls? any indication that these were member pages as apposed to non member pages?

Keep in mind there are many prank bots out there, but keeping an open mind until I know more information

all this bot does is makes sure that you are displaying the same content / code to your users as you are to the google bots.

As a php programmer, there will be restrictions as what a bot can get access to, its not just restricted by your robots file. In the old days, it used to be hard to get the bot to see everything unless you made it easy, even things like frames used skew things for the bot.

But a user has a session ID, a log on password, and a username etc, using this, a page can display different information dependant on the user. So I cant quite see how the bot can view what the user can.
