Some people post videos on YouTube or other video sites in hope of drawing video viewers from the video site to their own homepage. Others post interesting videos on their own site in order create content worth linking to.

Consider this: say your looking to find out how to tie a knot or something other instructional information. What do you think is likely to better help you understand and tie the knot on your own, a page with content or a video showing you exactly how the knot looks before, during and after the knot is completed? I'm sure the content is helpful for some but many are visual or hands on type people and a video showing you the same steps the content did will be more effective. Viral marketing is huge and I've seen more and more video's up on websites. They are a great form of link bait.

As recent Comscore Data Shows about 16% or organic clicks now provide a universal result. http://www.comscore.com/blog/2008/03/universal_search_a_first_look.html This can be a video or an image. I would play around with a variety of searches and see if the results are UTube or Images from particular sources and then mirror that content posting technique either where and when it is applicable. |

As more and more videos(and images) are appearing in search results it has become a very good way to get traffic and potentially turn into a link magnet. I would recommend if you can make some good movie clips to use them in this way, I have a few ideas for just such a seo plan and if I ever get them done I have estimated a revenue of about $500-3000/day - I just don't have the time at the moment to make the movie clips. This might be good material to use in an article sometime

Is it recommended to host the video's on your own site or host them on youtube with the video embedded into your site? If hosting on youtube and embedding, will there be any negative SEO benefit?

Youtube and metacafe videos work good for me. I get some traffic from them
It is cool to embed some videos on your site or blog |

My guess was that hosting a video on your site would be more beneficial as its content on your own site. The only issue I see with this (may not be a big issue) is bandwith. I see a lot of sites these days using youtube embedded videos.
I would guess that the same rules apply to optimizing a video as they do an image: naming the video with keywords included, etc. |

I agree. As they say, "A picture is worth a 1,000 words." |
