Apart from all those methods you have mentioned, forum posting is also a good method for promoting your site. While forum posting, you make signature, which helps in promoting your site. Forum posting is also a free method for promoting your site.

Paint the URL on your car - mileage might be deductible from your income tax.
Tattoo the URL on your forehead and sell autographs on ebay - ebay listing fees and tattoo artist fees might be deductible - if you are a chicken you can get a wash-off tattoo. When you go downtown wear a sandwich board with your URL - sandwich board cost and cost of your fancy Nike shoes might be deductible. Buy a custom bike jersey with your URL - cost of the jersey and your new Cannondale might be deductible. Paint URL on the side of your garage - cost of painting your house might be deductible - Mail Pouch became famous this way. I am sure that other members here will have better ideas than these...

Acquire a double opt-in mailing list and provide a free 'trigger' that will get people there.
Look for something of value that people cannot pass and make a deal... often a commodity can be dirt cheap to you and quite expensive or hard to come by to others. |

ONE: Offer things and look for interest.
On a forum, someone may say "Oh, how can I get free artwork for my site?" or "Where can I get such 'n' such?" or "Who can give me advice on SEO?". Sign up and post, "Well, actually, this page on my site here could be of interest to you". TWO: Sponsoring online competitions, for example donating a shirt with your brand on it or free copies of whatever you might sell. THREE: Donations - donate free clothes with your brand on to charity, or give a charity an over sized cheque while newspapers take photos. Just a few thoughts. |

You will often find the the best adverts are the ones "not being done yet".

I market a lot, all over the shop. The worst one so far has been:
using free website hosting for advertising (it only adds a link and does nothing for hits) The best, and by far only way I have found of getting my sites seen are:<p> Links, inbound and exchanged. They have to be organic and have to actually contain keywords RSS feeds. Need to be submitted to news aggregators, but have increased our site's backlinks 5% (from 1250-1370 (computerdisplays) and 955-1088(forevermac)) in a month. Also draw in a small handfull of readers and people looking to buy. Banner ads- on one other site of mine (cambridgecomputershop), that I've set aside to market our main sites- it gets a few hits, but the banners result in word of mouth promotion as they look more professional and the site's promoted locally (google search for cambridge computer shop)and most hits are from the UK. Keyword optimisation of the sites and their backlinks caused the largest increase in hits though, jumping initially by 100% in a month. Sales for our shops also increased by about 80%, which reflects the fact that we're targetting the audience we have stock for... Rgds Richard Last edited by FogHorn : July 15th, 2006 at 08:42 AM. As for PPC:
We got a lot of click fraud. If using a major search engine's ppc, avoid using keywords that you have to pay in excess of £1.00/ $1.60 for. Web designers keyword spam their sites with a view to adding in ppc ads, then link heavily to the site/ even pay people to click through on them (at about $0.01 per click). We'd find that with campaigns set in certain ways, we'd get high click throughs very quickly, but rarely any sales whatsoever. Organic growth and ranking in the search engines however, brought massive increases in calls, emails and sales. We also didn't get a drop-off in sales when we cancelled our ppc advertising campaign (in fact we didn't evern realise it had ended until a month later!) If using a search engine's ppc campaign, trun off preferences that allow your ad to be displayed on other people's websites, that way there's no incentives for them...
