SEO company rip off

Hi,

can anyone help?

we have been optimising our site in house for some time but due to workloads we decided to farm out the operation to a specialist company - unfortunately when they told us what we had to do we realised that their techniques were outdated at best and at worst would actually damage our ranking. As such we decided not to implement their changes and have since been in negotiation with them for the return of our up front payment.

Essentially this is on this basis that we could not actually implement the changes they gave to us as they contained basic html errors that would result in our pages not displaying correctly.

This has led to nowhere and we are now considering our options, including taking them to court - but we are unsure of how this would work as essentially it is our 'expertise' versus theirs. Does anyone have any experience of this, is their an independant authority who could comment etc?

Thanks.

What would you do if this had been a car repair firm? It would be nice if someone took one of these scam firms that claim to do SEO to court. I belive many of us who run serious SEo firms would support you with time, money and know-how.

Wow - that really sucks. If you decide to take on SEO yourself, there are plently of people on this forum that would be willing to answer any questions you might have. I am willing to answer any questions as well.

Good Luck

Why would someone make a payment before even knowing what is going to be done to their website??

because (so they say) if they tell you what they are going to do before you pay, then why pay - you've already got all the information you need.
Anyway, we took them to court and got our money back.

Next time, pay with a credit card. If you don't get the service/product you paid for, most times Visa/Mastercard will return the charge to the merchant. Never use Discover, though. They suck as far as sticking up for consumer rights. I had taken my car in for a 90k mile service which included a brake inspection. My truck was making a terrible screeching (from the wear bar on the pads which I didnt know at the time) Long story short, they told me it was some pulley and said the brakes were fine at 40% wear. Meanwhile the pads were almost down to bear metal. Discover wouldn't refund me even though they didn't do the full service, nor would they return part of the money paid.

Crichey, why are you bumping up a thread that is over one month old? The guy already solved his problem, no need to bump this up again.

Taken for 1k...Need advice on how to file claim.

Hi,

I had something smiilar happen...I went with a seo company that I found on elance. The company had a solid rating when I chose them but then dropped - a lot (5 out of the last 6 companies have rated them as a 1 - the worst possible score) . They stated they had a 30 day money back guarantee but refused to return the $1,000.

They are head quarted in the us(FL). However they would not give me their phone #. I think they just have a mail drop or empty office in fla.

I am looking for advice on how to file in small claims court and what I need to do.

Thanks

You can also file a complaint with the State Attorney General and/or consumer affairs division. You may also file a FCC complaint as well. They might be able to help you. Make your tax money work for you!

File a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission. At the least, they (the seo) will get official complaints from both offices. You can also file with the BBB, but they really can't do anything except send them yet another complaint. Bury them with paper and they may refund you just to get rid of you. If that doesn't work, file suit!
