Agree with rustybrick... SEOChat started 8 months ago and the membership's diversity is quite good with a vast assortment of professions, and experiences, and opinions that complement each other.

A book tends to have "one opinion" and you rarely get to ask the author their reasonings, sources, or "how old" is this data.

Caution -- it is also advisable when going with advice (including forums) to ask very detailed and specific questions.

Many times people will ask a question and get a specific set of responses. I have seen -- "the question asked, being the wrong one" and the responses by association to be dead wrong.

Without writing a book to cover all possible continencies e.g. How can I rank #1 for my keyword? can be faulty and if you move forward you can quickly get yourself in trouble.

But the time it take to write, and then to learn, the information is often obsolete... thus get specific! ;)

Fathom your correct, but I have read this book. And it just goes over the fundamentals of SEO. I am pretty sure that what it has within it will stay the same for a while. It does not go over very detailed specifics. If you want detailed specifics, come here.

But for a beginner - to understand the fundamentals of SEO - get the book in electronic format (or buy paper back). Its good and I do not get a commish for saying so.

To succeed at promoting your business on the web you better be a strong web developer, know SEO, be willing to do lots of research, have good business sense and be able to prospect for niches. These things rarely converge in a single person and that means you must be willing to collaborate with others for expert advice and devote yourself to study so that you can understand as much as possible. Your results will be fractional if you rely only upon yourself.

When you get advice - even from someone who has studied your site and has consulted on your business you must be willing to go against their advice or throw it away because they do not know the business and how people find your products on the web as well as you do. YOU are responsible for the final decision and this is why you must study hard - or you will make ignorant mistakes that will rob you of time and sales. If I unquestioningly followed all of the advice that I have received from experts and all that I have read then my sales would be fractional of what they are at this point in time. The cookie-cutter model is severely flawed. At the same time, I have gained from each consultation. They can’t possibly know the full picture in just a few hours of study -- and what I have just said is nothing to fault any of them!

Many of the people who come here are EXPERTS and I have learned from them. Many of the people who come here are new to SEO and I have learned from the questions that they ask. Lots of people come here to complain about the search engines or how their listings have been dropped and this can be theraputic for them and reassuring for me if I am experiencing the same thing.

Bottom line.... I must say that visiting this site and communicating with the people here has been the most profitable thing that I have done in a very long time.

I thank everyone here who has posted and asked questions.

WOW, thanks everyone for taking the time to answer. Until 3 weeks ago, I didn't know that there was anything such as SEO! I have been taking web design classes and nothing was ever mentioned as far as this goes....just how to write the code.

I am in your boat as well. I just graduated with a degree in computer science and the term SEO was never mentioned. I wish college ciriculum was a bit more practical....

I have to agree on that one. That is why I prefer reading Search Engine Optimization ebooks. Most of the are always up to date. By the time books get published they are probably out of date. I have read many SEO ebooks by the best by far are :

Search Engine Optimization Book
by: Giovanni Gastelum $69 it also includes an SEO report by him it was very helpful.

Search Engine Marketing Book
by: Mike Grehan $67

These two books are awesome. I found them very benficial. I recommend these book if you want to get serious about SEO.

randfish disagrees: How could you have forgotten SEOBook.com - Aaron's efforts in this space are, as yet, unmatched,
though I agree that Grehan's book is also quite good.

the last post is probably spam...

Giovanni stole some of my sales copy, created a site with a similar name and format, sells an ebook with a similar price point, and markets it via AdWords bidding on my name.

when I called him he told me over the phone that it was him who spammed SEW forums trying to promote his site multiple times, and now I guess he is probably searching various SEO forums for aaron wall or SEO Book to spam those threads

I think he may be in affiliation with a company that has been scummy to me on other fronts.

never underestimate the ability of scum to act scummy.

sufyaaan agrees: The last post is absolutely spam... (Or else he must have mentioned www.seobook.com in his
recommendations which is one of the most popular seo books on the WWW.)
IrishWonder agrees: definitely looks like automated search for posts on "SEO book"
