Questions for anyone experienced in expired domains ...
Check your ethics at the door before proceeding with this thread ... I know many/most will say they object to these tactics ... not asking for moral/ethical guidance, but rather for firsthand knoweldge on how to effectively use expired domains. ;)
I just bought 2 expired domains as a test. One is a PR4 and the other a PR5. My questions: 1) I know the PR stability will depend on whether the backlinks stay or not, but in your experience does the PR of expired domains typically stick or do the PR's tend to drop pretty quickly? 2) Leveraging the PR --- Do you a) create real content themed to the site your attempting to boost, b) create a keyword spammy page themed for your boost site, or c) create no content, only links to the sites to boost, or d) none of the above? 3) Do you keep the expired domains on a separate IP from your "real" websites? 4) Any other guidance/advice/gotchas you would be willing to share? Thanks in advance! |

i think that 'banking' on the pagerank of expired domains is a short-term venture in a depreciating asset. eventually the links will slowly fade from these sites and you will be left without them. this is true unless...of course...you build up content based on the previous sites theme which it doesnt sound like is your intent.
separate ip...why? are you going to point all of this pr to your 'real' sites? no separate ip is needed. just dont link 'to' these site from your 'real' sites.

Thanks RZ.
Yeah - I will probably run 2 diff experiments, one where I write content based on the theme of the expired domain and the other for the theme of the "real" site being linked to and see how they each do. The separate IP ... I'm a bit paranoid with my experiments so I'm keeping all expired domains on a separate class C IP from all real websites. P.S. -- Good luck in the competition ... I'll be throwing some links at you from some of our sites. |

it depneds on the relevance of your website to the old site. Most webmasters are lazy to add/delete links.

the PR will be gone in 30 days, expired domains worth nothing more, even if the backlinks stick
