No Referrer in The Analysis package
Approximately 1/2 of the visits to our site are picked up on our log analysis tool as "No Referrer". We checked with the provider and they reported that in many cases the browser is set up to block the source. We are aware we get many return visits and many come from people at work. The provider also offered that anything coming in from a Search Engine will be picked up with the appropriate SE.
Does this make sense to you? What is your experience with this? Thanks, Dave |

I dont belive this is true..... Anyway its not surprising to have half your visitors with unknown referres. You could compare your webstats softrware with your actual log file and check...

I have software which can (and does) block the referer. I dont believe half your visitors have this type of software installed and active. Is half your visits from Search Engines? They dont report a referer. Dan |

I looked at one days worth of info from my logs. I can't program the H in HTML. About 1/2 were not from an identifiable source. Most of our traffic comes during the work day. I assume various businesses have blocked the source (assuming our web stats customer service rep was being honest). He also said that all search traffic is identified. 1/2 our traffic is no referrer, 1/4 is direct access to the site, and the rest is search traffic and various other sources. I'm just trying to get some help and see if this high percentage seems about right or if possibly our web stats tool is underreporting. Dave |

Hello Forum,
One of our clients has asked the question are their any stats on the amount of Internet users who can block their referrer? I assume that professional organisations must have a factor that they apply to their no referrer to indicate an estimated true figure? Any ideas? |
