There are plenty of good article directories out there - Ezine Articles, Go Articles, Articles Base, Amazines, Article Snatch, Idea Marketers are all ones that I have had personal success with.
Start by submitting different articles to a bunch of different directories. Then, you can narrow down the list by seeing which directories give you the best results.
However, one key point to make - you need to submit different articles to these directories. Otherwise, you'll be dealing with duplicate content, and that won't do anything to help your search engine ranking.

just where did you pickup this SEO bon mot "...I read that article posting can increase the traffic to website.." because once you provide that URL to me, I'll block that site in my browser...
that is such poor advice that I just hope that you and your clients are in my own client roster channels...NOTHING makes me happier than having the other team not even showing up, eh!
read. research. then you'll find that this ADVICE (if you can even call this **** that!) is so wrong, that you and all others who follow same aren't even in the SEO game, eh!!!
...sigh...sorry long time members, just been an awful awful backlink acquistion day, eh!

Wow Jim, tell em what you really think...hahaha
It's been a long time discussion about submitting articles to other sites and it's benefits vs keeping the content on your own site and being rewarded with backlinks to your site for that high quality content.
I do agree with JV's overall thought process that posting articles to directories, article sites, etc. is worthless, unless you develop that one high quality article that gets picked up and not buried deep into said article site. By the way it sounds, it happens so rarely its not worth it. Can't speak from fact on that but have never heard anyone share a story about real, worthwhile success from submitting article to article or directory sites. Draw attention via social media type sites and I think you'll be moving in a better direction.

Article marketing does work if it is done correctly, that is a statement of fact.
Bottom line, if you write or get written for you, content which in itself is worthless and offers no real content, and then you submit it to some non descript article directory that only gets content once in a blue moon, then your wasting your time.
If on the other hand, you write good quality, interesting content, then submit it to good quality article websites, and possibly point a few links to the article, then it can work very well.
I have numerous articles that rank for relevant long tail, keywords, that bring in traffic, and all i did was as described above.
Another point is the recent "caffiene" change by google, which refers to updated content becoming an important factor in ranking, which exactly describes the aim of a good quality article directory.

yeah...I hear you Levp....but think that a part (not the fun part tho) of being here on SEOChat, is revealing what don't work...as much as trying to contribute to what has worked with all our members...
....sigh....so yeah, I should pass on these idiots...but figure that anyone who says "this is a statement of fact" for this tactic is really a poser...and couldn't SEO a girlguide cookie sale....
...sigh....now, back to the Mayo Clinic alumni page to see just where I can ask for that new client backlink....

I've received some traffic from article marketing but not too much. It seems to me a better choice is posting in forums and using your url in signatures. or if your site contains useful content you can post the urls of such pages to direct people to the answers.
