Is SEO a one person job?

Our Marketing VP wants to know if one person can do the job of Paid Search, Paid Inclusion, Organic & our Data Feeds?
What should I tell him? Can one person really do all of the above 100%? What kind of data can I give him to support my
answer? (articles or other research)

it depends on the size of your web sites, size of targeting keywords, and expected traffic

We only have one website, its a big shopping site. We have a ton of keywords since we sell so many types of products.
Are the jobs of SEO usually broken out, like one person works on optimizing paid search, organic search etc?

Ask the man how big he wants his company to be this time next year? Much of what is done during SEO work is an investment - it sounds like he is thinking of it as a 100% expense.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The quick answer to your question is NO.

The long answer is YES.
SEO is not a one person job since it requires hours and more hours for research and ongoing training. My wife and I are a two person operation, and thanks to the generous SEO-community here at SEO-chat and the 10 or so other SEO forums we read, we just manage to up to date. We would not have been able to do so without enough time on online forums.

We have about 40 SEO clients, and it takes all of our time (and more).

it's likely a two person job. you can start with one person and looking to hire more down the road. Looking for tools to automate keyword managemnt. I read somewhere that Google ahs been working on automation of keyword selection tools for large websites.

Sums it up nicely.

If need by why not outsource the paid search and keep the organic inhouse. Then he can spend as much or as little as he likes versus actual results achieved.

Meanwhile invest in developing the organic results...

You have to know the exact aims before you can formulate any costs or actions plan.
