would this make me a jerk?

i believe that keywords at the very beginning of a url instead of merely somewhere within the url is pretty important to google.

So suppose I want to move up in the google results for the keywords "Hunting Supply". My current url is "finesthuntingsupply.com" and I was thinking about buying the url of "hunting-supply.com" and having it point to finesthuntingsupply.com. Assuming i can get the new url indexed, would it

1. be ethical?
2. legal?
3. helpful to my cause?
4. would google penalyze me or even ban me outright?

Dont think about other domains...

Think about optimizing your page better...since i have seen your website and there is a lot work to do !!

(1) Your page title could be more effective....
(2) use ALT text on your images..
(3) the word hunting is always above 20 % density...for me far to high..
(4) your home link could be more effective.
(5) many more...

My advice...hire a SEO...it will bring you more then that second domain...
(for sure if you dont optimize that page also)

regards, hans

However he wants to :-)
that may sound flippant but is really is how it works.
The SEO alone can decide from one of a handful of payment models (let alone prices) once the model has been chosen whether it be ranking, hourly, one off payment based or whatever, then you need to charge what you feel yourself is fair for your experience and expertise. I've seen full seo services offered for as little as $200 per domain going up to over $15.000 per domain.

There are huge differences in payment models as mentioned as well. It is a questionI think nobody can answer.

But everyone bases that on some hourly rate * hours.

wm_asia,

I've implemented most of your advice on the home page. However, there are two things I'm struggling with:

1. What does "your home link could be more effective" mean? did you mean my "home page"?

2. I've submitted the site to this word density analyzer: http://www.ranks.nl/cgi-bin/ranksnl/spider/spider.cgi?lang=
and I can't seem to understand the data. according to this site, my density is at about 12 %. Am I right?

Hi,

Optimizing is special work...
I have giving you good hints to improve your website.
If you read previous postings then you will find more about the
ALT text for images...which are still not changed.

That ranks NL page...i saw it before....dont really like it..since
it far to complicated to know where you are going...

I use a density software tool to optimize pages with...and far more
effective then those websites...

Like i sayed...study some more on this board...and really
improve your website..then we talk again.

regards, hans

My program has an automatic ALT Tag inserter. For some reason it is not working.

automatic alt inserter...

Should be a smart inserter then ..since it should KNOW what to find
on the page linked...and those keywords used as the ALT tag !!!

(optimise it by hand so you control it...)

Shockey...For alt tags, place this right after the source code of your picture: alt="some keywords go here"

(Example: src="YourPicture.jpg" alt="some keywords go here")

um... wm_asia - you do realise that the overture keyword suggestion tool ignores plurals? therefore searches for 'supply', 'supplys' and 'supplies' are all recorded against the singular form of the word 'supply' - this is why it gives the results you just listed.

This isn't a problem if you users are using a SE that lumps plurals etc. together, but pretty useless on things like google - you need to research further and find out the exact form of the word that people are searching under... and as SEO-WIZ stated, most people probably wouldn't search for 'Hunting Supply'.
