Smile Who's better? Yahoo or Google?

Hi, I know this sounds like a silly question. But which is a better search engine? Yahoo or Google?

Show your me vote! And tell me why....

I have noticed because of SEO marketing, many of the results on Google are not as good as they used to be a few years ago. Perhaps this is only in my mind! ;)

Hi Jiffy
welcome to the forums

I like google more because it is primarily math driven.

yahoo is hand edited and really easy to manipulate without much cost or sophistication.

yahoo also does not separate out its ads as clearly as google does, which is another reason i like google more

For searching.... google has the best relevance and presents the results in a way that I find easy to decide what pages are best for me

For makin money... a #1 on google is worth many times more than a #1 on yahoo.... yahoo blocks the top of the SERPs with sponsored ads... I have a #1 on yahoo that makes a little money - but if the same #1 was on google I would be sippin tea in Jamaica.

With the dominance of Google, and its "effect" on other search engine results, the advantage is cleary with google for anyone that is trying to make an income from the web. Scoring the first page on google will also have the added benefit of scoring a first page ranking on multiple other engines.

Google has much advanced search technology, it's at least 2 years ahead of Yahoo. search result on Yahoo would be much worse if the same amount of SEO applied to Google was applied to Yahoo.

My vote is for Google.

Mainly because 95% of my traffic comes from there!

Nacho! But did you know that google only drives about 50% of the search while yahoo drives about 35% (per iProspect).

But read this news today on CNET http://go.jitbot.com/yahoo-is-better

In terms of quality of search results, google results are not much better. "research firm Vividence found that Google's results vary little from those found on other search sites."

Perhaps I should I ask the question properly. If you were a web surfer (instead of a webmaster or SEO marketer) which is your preferred search engine. Google or Yahoo.

I always use google, probably because it loads faster.

Hey Jiffy,

It's nice to see someone I know here :-D !
For your question, I like google better, mostly because of its neat interface and the search results are good in general. Yahoo is not bad too, but its interface is not that neat. I think a nice interface is very important since people will come back more often if so. But whenever I can't find the things that I want in google, I'll switch to yahoo to find.

Yahoo, to me, is kind of like AOL. It is designed to be a one stop for all things internet. They are good with many different things, but not Great at any of them.

Google is more narrow minded (he he) and that makes them better with search results and speed.

Also, the volume of seaches done on google vs. yahoo should tell you something.

(AOL is for the beginner or uneducated in the world of the internet, they can get to things easily, but AOL still stinks big time.)

debunked, it's true that Yahoo is a one-stop shopping mall. However, yahoo has refocused alot in the search engine again. Although many people say google is faster, yahoo is actually very fast with the new stripped-down interface which they copied from google.

I think many people still love google is because they have branded themselves to be 'the' search engine. Just like Netscape was 'the' browser. When IE came out with versions 1 to 3, Netscape was still the king. Though IE 4 was a substantial improvement. That was also when I switched from Netscape to IE because it's better. The rest is history.

I am doing the same now...switching from Google to Yahoo.... ;)
