Lightbulb Whaty does MSN use?

I have a website that has a top 5 ranking for 2 keywords at MSN. However, it is burried at Google, doesn't even appear in the first 100. Does anyone know what algo does MSN use to rank your site? I am getting nice traffic from MSN, and it seems much easier to get a good ranking there that at Google, so maybe I should try to optimize my other sites for that engine.

I agree my site ranks #7 for Google and has dropped time after time during updates. Yet my site has remained #1 for MSN and never moved? From what I can see it is META Description and Backlinks. I have fiqured this out since I changed my title tag, and my page content yet I still remained in #1. However I did not change the META keywords. I also have links from other sites that contain that keyword in the title and anchor text

Question Re: MSN Search--Does anyone know about the search cookie removing a site from results

My site appears on the first page for a search term repeatedly and has for years. However, in the last few months I noticed fewer references from MSN search and also noticed something strange. Once you do the search and click on the link to my site, the site disappears in future searches. I found that searching for any cookes containing '@search.msn' and deleting them causes the site to return to the search. Does anyone know the cause for this behavior?

I try to rank on any major engine

I have gotten a lot of hits and sales from MSN search in the past and want to maintain as much ground as possible. There is usually only one cookie from msn. When I delete it, my site reappears in the results. I'm wondering if I'm getting this result because I am not paying an annual fee to some background search service. I guess the fact that no one tries to rank on MSN is the reason that I have not seen much of a response to this question. I've asked in other forums and haven't had any feedback.

Actually, one reason why you will find good rankings on MSN right now is because they are busting ace to catch Google. They will index anything they can get their hands on. This won't generate quality at first for users, but they will work through it. And if they can't work through it, they will buy it. T

Lightbulb Good Rank on MSN

Well, my experience shows:
MSN follows Overture & as such they prefer "Title" tags & META Keywords (the same way Yahoo does).

If you want to change your keywords & META TAGS...do that. The effect takes time...cozYahoo/MSN spiders are not as aggressive as Googlebot. So, if you really want to check the impact, wait for 60 days. You will see the change.

However, I liked what "tcookyz" said. It also makes sense.
I am waiting to see the effect of the upcoming changes by Overture.

Regards
WC

Results were being changed by the cookie, but now we appear to have dropped off

We were ranking on page 1 for a very competitive word for a couple of years. Never had this luck with other engines. I began seeing the changed results (site not included) with the cookie about six months ago, and now, cookie or not, our site is not appearing.

I am wondering if this may have anything to do with us not having renewed with the new Overture.

Question SE Algo

I was wondering...
Where do I get to learn more about this algos?
And...
Can you suggest some good books on SEO?

I really have no clue why my friend's site www.solutions2day.com is not shpwing up on Google...(I have already discussed in another thread).

Perhaps I will do some more study & then come up with some idea.
Regards
WC

You dont need to block or activate mediapartners or disallow the css directory. I'd remove the robots.txt file all together and see what happens.

You also need some backlinks if you want to get indexed correctly.

Seems that Google has found your site just the lack of backlinks isn't helping to speed up the process.

Cool Thanks Again!

Thanks for the advise.
Actually the change in robots.txt was followed by Google's advise only (I mean...what is mentioned on big G's site).

I liked what you said. Thanks! I will surely give that a try.

Now my question:
  1. What will the best possible way of generating backlinks? FFAs?
  2. You mentioned "

Looking forward to your feedback.
Thanks for your time.

Thats only if you have googlebot disabled really. Once you put the code onto the site Google will find it. So it's not needed. The reason I said Google has found is because you already are serving Google ads. Usually where one bot goes the other is not too far behind. Your just not indexed because you dont have any backlinks. Check your logs and see if you can spot googlebot. If not than I got ahead of myself and you just need some solid backlinks. Goto isedb.com and locate some free directories and get listed in dmoz.org aswell. That should do the trick.

Also keep posting here and once you get 100 posts (quality posts that is), you'll be able to add a link in your sig to speed up the process.

Thumbs up Back Links

Ok. Makes sense.
I have removed those lines.

Now, my server logs indicate that googlebot has visitied around 90 times during the last 60 days.
But, no reults. :-(

I placed the adword...yes. [but does it help?]

I haven't submitted to any directory yet...but will surely do so.
Thanks!

Any more advise?
Looking forward to hear from you.
Thanks again for your time.

Get some backlinks and Google wont hesitate to include you in the index. AdSense wont help you rank better or even rank if you dont have backlinks but it does send up a flag that your site does exist.

Just hunt some backlinks down and you'll be fine.
