What software do you use when writing your content?

This may seem a dumb question, but when you guys are writing content for your sites what program do you use to write the content in? I have a Mac and I use either Pages or Google docs, but I find that when I copy and paste that info into my file that I am using html in I get question marks in place of all of the quotation marks.

I'm sure there is an easy fix for this.

Ah, the reason for the is your character encoding. You need to either change your character encoding or use the correct ASCII code for the symbol. For example Ascii Table - ASCII character codes and html, octal, hex and decimal chart conversion

Depending on some browser settings and the character encoding used you will either display the character or a question mark. It is best to use the correct ASCII codes such as
    Code:
    %
for the % sign. (had to wrap the ASCII code in code tags - otherwise it marked it up correctly as a percet sign - irony!

I use either a plain text editor, Google Docs, and more recently I just use Codey.co and FTP on the fly in the cloud.

    I write in DreamWeaver.

    Why?

I want to see the "look" of the text on the page and how it positions with images, headings, ads, related boxes.

Also, seeing a product coming to form makes me work harder.

Just copy from your application to notepad, then copy it from notepad and paste it where you want. Notepad will make the code standard.
Well, that's what I do... and it works fine.

    • Test-ok → agrees: But don't confuse notepad++ with notepad, for anyone who's watching this program :)

Absolutely agree with this... actually download the free version of Textpad as it is much more robust that notepad.

Ah, thanks guys. I believe I tried doing this before with Text Edit which is the Mac version of Notepad, but it didn't work. I'll try downloading Textpad.

Markdown came up in a meeting the other day at work. I have been meaning to look into it a little more. There is a a small learning curve with markdown but if you know html then I'm sure you will be fine.

I write a lot of stuff in Komodo Edit. Pretty similar to Notepad++ but it has some features better suited to coding (including opening/saving files directly to your server if need be)

I use Notepad and Dream Weaver. I think both are very comfortable for everybody.
