Dave, I may have asked this again, but I am seriously lost, my boss wants me to show him an SEO report focused around what keywords we need to improve on and what we can implement, I need a free tool that will show this to me in a way that I understand. I am new to SEO and it really confuses me but I really want to learn. Just do not know where to start exactly. I need to pick up on this stuff and my boss is the only one who knows SEO in the company but he is at meetings and such most of the day, he even said himself I need to learn on my own and he will point me in direction here and there but still this SEO stuff is not a overnight skill I can specialize in .

This is a really good thread.

SEO can be overwhelming. And the big problem is that SEO means different things to different experts. I've met some amazingly talented people who do SEO. I've also met some dangerously bad SEO people to those who just sell snake oil.

The thing is that there are no shortcuts to learning it. You have to read, learn and do. The doing will make the learning stick.

If I were you, I'd read the Google and MOZ beginners guides mentioned earlier. Like tonight.

Then I would run a technical audit using one of the tools mentioned. There is a really good thread somewhere on tools with more.

Your boss has put you in a tough spot. I'd probably tell him that you need more direction.

Let me offer some advice sahmadi.

    1. Ask for the keywords your predecessors were trying to rank. You need this info so you can see if they were targeting them correctly. Also to see if the terms have any potential to bring in traffic.
    2. Get Google Analytics installed if it isn't already installed.

Go get a free WebCeo account, Also a free Semalt account. This is in addition to Screaming Frog. Why you may ask. So you can see the differences in the tools.
Get an idea of how reports are presented. Then you may want to consider buying your own software, but I suggest you get the company to buy it. Software can be very expensive.

Now for some advice on the site....
Is the site an apartment finder service, or a property management type of thing??

You have 29 pages with empty Title Tags. 2 pages with duplicate Title Tags.
    You have chained redirects on macapartments.com >> www.macapartments.com >> https://www.macapartments.com
fix it so macapartment.com redirects to https://www.macapartment.com. Reduce it to one re-write. Will make the site load faster.
This should supply you with enough to keep you busy over the weekend.

If you can dive into the chained redirects and clarify please. so going macapartments.com is different than https site?

Also, I already have Google analytics but how does one "correct" things like high bounce rate or other metrics.

We are trying to improve on keywords and search terms for those who are not familiar with our company and residential properties, those who know about us we are not concerned about but those who do not know.

Also, if I go to macapartments.com, it take same to our https site, same with www.mac... (why the redirect?)

Here, a picture to explain it... see if some one types in macapartments.com it get redirected to www.macapartments.com which then gets redirected to https www version of site.
This is convoluted, it can be done better and simpler.

    Hi Sahmadi,

    I hope you are well.

I'm fairly new to SEO also but what I found useful was doing some in depth research. There are loads of tutorial videos out there that explain how to help increase organic rankings, utilise PPC, make sure you're content is relevant to the user. Also, I read some policies from Google to see what they focus on. From my very limited experience compared to most of the people on this forum, I learned that Google focus on relevance and good content writing. I also learned that quality of over quantity is certainly beneficial (with backlinks etc). Plus I've read lots of information on White Hat vs Black Hat techniques.

The point I'm trying to make is that the information is out there to help you get started but you need to take the time look
On another note - I have found this forum to really helpful.

Good luck on the new job role also!

There has been some great advice in this thread but SEO is a huge field and some pretty hefty books have been written on the subject - you are not going to be able to find the answers in one thread.

No 'ranking for a keyword' is only half the story - you want to rank for keywords which bring you visitors who achieve your goal(s) - sign up, buy something, make contact. Ultimately that means:
    - some keywords that you currently rank for are worthless
    - some keywords that you think you want to rank for are worthless

Want to tell your boss something? Tell him you first have to identify keywords of value. How do you do that? Google Adwords connected to Google Analytics with Goals/Ecommerce set up. Analytics will then tell you which keywords lead to conversions.

Now you are ready to start your SEO or you may find there is more value in expanding Adwords instead (there is more than one way to make a website a success).

For SEO you need to take time out and read:
    - the stickies in this forum
    - Google's own SEO guide: https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/40349?hl=en
    - The Moz Guide: https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo
    - Mine (obviously!): How to SEO - Improve your website's performance in the search engines

In a few months time you'll be starting to get the hand of it and you'll be able to ask focused questions in this forum. But without sounding negative if I met your boss I would be asking "What the hell were you doing hiring someone to do your SEO who doesn't know how to do SEO?"
