This is my first answer in this forum and I hope id doesn't go wrong. For instance, On Page optimization, Link Profile and Comparing, Site Speed Test, Search Engine Indexing, looking for broken links or dead links, All these comes under SEO Audit and For most of them Woo Rank could cover and for broken links you have to go for the Broken Link Checker.

You can use the free tools, but there's a reason why there free. and some will disagree.
    1. Most Free tools don't give all the puzzle pieces.
    2. Most Free tools use your information not to help you but to help them.(mainly google free tools)
You noticed I said Most,,,SEO chat has a set of free tools if your interested.
    Free SEO tools
I don't know how good they are, I don't use them but I've heard they do what they say they do and there free.

For me, I am checking meta tags, broken links, trailing slashes, www rewrite, robots.txt, no frames and flashes, content analysis, images analysis, website and page speed, safe browsing, 404 errors. Most of modern tools provide seo audit tools with all these functions.

Another pretty good, quick and easy resource to use is Neil Patel's tool: Quick Sprout

It is free, but it gives very spot on recommendations and in my opinion it is a very helpful tool.

The only drawback is it can give recommendations for individual pages of your sites and not your whole domain.

SEO audit is necessary to explain what is it and what to expect from it.
    Expect from a SEO Audit
    1. A description of the current state of your web site – This is a detail analysis on how your web site is performing in search, social media, number of internal/external links and any other information related to your web site’s existing state .
    2. A list of actions based on a SEO audit checklist together with explanations for each and every item in the list.
    3. A report describing a complete Internet marketing strategy for taking advantage of all available sources of trafficand opportunities on the Internet and not just SEO.

Personally, I would never do an SEO audit without reviewing the information architecture, manually. How strong is the foundation? Does the navigation follow along or is it designed so that people and bots run into walls or get lost? Most SEO's never think about the user experience and how vital it is for organic SEO. They don't know how or where to put content on pages for SEO and people. They don't think long term, like when the time comes to add new categories for a growing inventory. An audit should include keyword research based on the specific user types who visit the site, rather than just taking the data from tools that lack the back story. In other words, an SEO audit is limited based on the skills of the person doing it.

Add user personas, and searcher personas to the list.
    Taxonomies and IA
    Interlinking and anchor text
Accessibility compliance basics like alt attributes behind images
Are videos transcribed and optimized for YouTube?

There is two wide techniques in SEO field i.e On page and Off page.
On page technique include optimization of URL structure, Internal linking of urls, Crawling errors, website layout, keyword analysis etc.
Off page technique include creating backlink using different technique from high PR and relevant websites.
