After lurking around here for almost a year an extra brain cell kicked in and I decided to participate.
Most of the search engine tricks I understand, but this one has me stumped. I assume it is some sort of cloaking, but wow, what great results. The domain: 'ez credit card . net'. At 'rank where . com', using the popular (overture reports about 300K searches mo!) keyphrase "credit card offer" this site appears at #1 or #2 in all but Google. OK, just a good site, well targeted. Check the PR, hmmmm 0/10. Well must have some good keywords and density. Run SEOchat keyword density on site. Keyword occurrence of 74 times with a density of 1%. Check HTML source. Not even close to 74 occurrences, just a well written, audience targeted page. Cloaking? .httacess redirection for spiders ? It may be black hat, and it may not work on G but still generates a ton of traffic. Any explanations ? |

Yup, that's the second one today, see also this thread.
Classic cloaking case, easily spotted with the user-agent trick. Judging by the "cloaking report posts density" today, it could even be quite common practice nowadays |

Which explains why it does well on MSN, Yahoo, etc. G is the only one smart enough to boot them for black hatting. Yahoo loves old school black hat techniques.

Thanks for pointing out your thread. Picked up "User Agent Switcher Extension". Seems like the cloakers are overdoing it when the .htaccess redirection is known to G and the others are still faked by a simple .js inclusion. I guess some just like to spend $295 for a garbage text builder. |
