it doesnt hurt that's for sure, you should be building your site for your visitors anyway, not for google, but by having a properly coded website, you will allow the google crawler to see your website properly. So yes, it can help you.

Validations are for proper viewability of the site by the visitors on various browsers and that too with hassle and error free browsing.

Its for the visitors, No impact on SERPS as such.

correctly mentioned, a valid code ensures that the spiders would not get trapped by some code bloat and would actually be able to craw the entire site ( unless you are doing something foolish as putting an entire JS navigation ).

It helps your viewers immensely and ensures that your visitors can view the site properly irrerspective of the browsers they are using

Also, if you are adding those nice little tags on your webpage that gives an extra level of confidence in your business for the savvy users who knows what those tags mean. It shows you are serious about your website.

Most savvy users who know what those tags mean also know that many of the sites displaying them don't pass within a mile of W3C validation!
