.uk sites tearing it up?

Is anyone noticing a big increase in the amount of uk sites?
I'm seeing tons of .uk.com and .co.uk ranking extremely high for very competitive terms.

I have totally noticed that, too! Out of curiousity, what keyterms were you searching?

I'm looking at the terms car insurance and auto insurance. It is a nice set of highly competitive SERPs to observe. Seems like there shouldn't be ANY .uk sites in those SERPs - anyone in the US looking for insurance isn't going to be getting it from someone in the uk, nor do they need info about insurance in the uk (ok its possible they do but quite unlikely )

I've noticed the UK invasion while shopping online...Mainly searching for action sports (surfing, snowboarding, etc) related items...

Well how about that. Google's going Euro.

Most likely because major .com american sites were wiped out during Florida and now your left with more room for other sites. UK sites weren't filtered so they're sneakin in.

and to pour gas on the fire

Everyone assumes north american sites should rank higer? Hmm.. Maybe the europeans are getting better at SEO. I was in Germany last year for CEBit and the head of Wireless for Sun Germany was ecstatic over the fact Germany has a DSL penetration rate of 20%... by our standards... YAWN... but that means consumers are finally able to surf big meaty pages... now that 56K is gone bye bye. That means European sites can be better than grey and black pre-Netscape sites.

I think the battle for hearts and minds has begun and what has been a "dominated by USA and Canada" thing has passed on to new combattants. Hell India has broadband now.. that's really spooky.

But it works in reverse.... start adding UK to your links and text on your site and watch your UK sales go up up up

Mike
