Title Tag Question
If i want to attract people who search for:
"web design in new york" does it affect it if i have "web design services in new york" in the title? will i not be listed as high as someone else (keeping everything else constant besides for title tag) who has just web design in new york?

i feel it's always better to put as many keyworsds as legitimately possible - if yuo put the services as well, it will only help you to get a better position for the full keyword string . why truncate it ?

because it will lower the keyword density, therefor lowering the relevancy

"web design in New York" is about the same as "web design services in New York"
I wouldn't put it in the tag unluss you are targerting the keyword services also.

Oh come on people! Always full of advice, never bothering to check out the situation first, eh?!?
Rustybrick, why are you optimizing for 'web site design in new york' in the first place? 'new york web design' is searched for over 600x more than 'web site design in new york' because hardly anyone types stop phrases like 'and', 'in', 'of' etc. into search engines anymore. This of course leaves you room to make your title 'New York Web Design Services' which is stronger, shorter, keyword rich with no stop phrases. Just type 'web site design in new york' into Google and look what it says: "in" is a very common word and was not included in your search. If you can't give good advice or you know nothing about optimization then why bother spouting rubbish? Hope this information helps you get customers Rustybrick because what you have been told previously was complete and utter bollocks in my opinion. IH |

And before any of you start crying and type - "how do you know it's searched for more?" - here:
go to http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ and type in 'new york web design' Searches done in March 2003 Count Search Term 1044 new york web design 845 web site design new york 103 new york web design company 78 new york city web design 47 new york web design firm 41 city.com design new web york 26 web design in new york 25 college design new web york any more questions? well i want to optimize for both web design and web design (in) new york.
I dont have the word 'in' in my title tags. that is a waste since SEs filter them. anyway... |

I would be cautious of the Overture tool... Having dealt with Overture's nonsense for over 3 years now, I can tell you that one of the problems with them is that they map what they consider to be identical phrases to a single result set, which is in turn keyed to one arbitrarily determined canonical phrase. In other words, given "New York web design" and "web design in New York", they might decide that the two phrases are close enough and combine the number of searches for both under one - either one - and thus the integrity of their search term tool for general use is shattered.
Food for thought. -Nate |

plus i rank almost exactly the same if you put new york before or after web design.
so it doesnt matter. |

Rusty I'd say that it does the search for web design in new york would produce an exact hit on a title of web design in new york but not on web design services in new york the word proximity isn't the same. Cheers,

Nate one only needs to look at house plan / house plans in overture to not give much weight to the results they provide. They only return results for house plan. The ratio of house plans to house plan is close to 3 to 1. I do a bit of work on a house plans related site, we are slowly moving up, the owner of the site is in the throws of launching a new site because it is actually easier. Cheers, |
