Tiny URLs
Curious to know how these tiny URLs help or take away from SEO efforts? I know they make long, ugly URLs look more pretty but does using them in a backlink situation take away from potential link juice? Do they work the same way a 301 redirect works or is it different?
Some of our URLs get quite lengthy and the thought of shrinking them would be nice, although people wouldn't know what they were clicking. If the benefits of using tiny URLs are similar to regular URLs, it may be worth experimenting with.

Well they do pass some value as they are 301 redirects. but as we all know google is passing less and less value through 301 redirects.
If it was coming from a very nice source i would try to ask that source to change the link to your actual url. Remember you can always use a different anchor text than having the url as the anchor text.
Twitter etc are nofollowed but it is still valuable becasue google does re-crawl pretty much instantly after a tweet about a website.
I wouldnt worry about it. Users can link to you that way if they wish, just keep an eye on where these links are and ask for a normal link if the website in question is reputable.
tbh this would be very low on my list of concerns. I would worry more about how to get more.

Thanks for the response. I'm really not concerned but just started seeing more and more of them around the net. I never really knew their purpose and their affect on SEO so I figured I would ask.
I guess I was looking for a better understanding of how they were valued and why they are used. I now have a better understanding.

Less and less value? Really? Well, I've been kept out of that "we all". ;)
Only reference to that loss was a sentence from Matt Cutts (in an article about crawling) saying that "a certain percentage" of PageRank was lost through the redirect. He did not say how much nor did he say that this percentage will increase in the future.
Have you got some data that give an estimation of this loss of value and show a declining trend?

And it shows that if Bing and Yaho were not dealing correctly with the redirect, it was not the case with Google, which preserve most (if not all) of the linkjuice and popularity.
