As I was heavily researching the opposing theories of
BLOOP/BLOOD and
Temporal Link Analysis, I realized that there is no correct term nor heavy discussion of one of the most common theories being floated about new links or links to new sites. BLOOP/D stands for Back Link Over Optimization Penalty/Devaluation which would be a penalty in form similiar to on-page OOP. As many posters have pointed out, this is an unlikely penalty
TLD, which stands for Temporary Link Devaluation, has been rumored to be influencing a large number of sites. Many people who disavow the 'sandbox' factor claim that TLD instead is responsible for the long amount of time it takes for new sites to rank well, even for simple keyword phrases.
In a TLD algo, links to a website would initially be counted at a very low value, maybe 5-10% of their total potential value (and the value of old links to old sites). As the months go on, these links would eventually gain value until reaching 100% of potential over some amount of time - this has been speculated to be anywhere from 3-12 months.
I wonder what people think about two questions:
#1 - In your opinion, is Google, Yahoo or any other engine currently using TLD or Temporal Link Analysis?
#2 - Have you seen evidence to disprove the TLD theory? - This would most likely be a site that received a few (or many) links in a very short period of time and instantly skyrocketed up the SERPs...
