& symbol in the Title
Hey guys, I know there is a list of words called stop words that the search engines tend to not like, whether in the title, description, or even the main body. Our site has an & symbol in the title. does any body know if this is something that causes the search engines spiders to get unsettled, in other words do you think it could harm our rankings. Thanks in advance to any replies. Look forward to seeing what is said.

Thanks for the fast replies all. Now as for an example I will use a fake title for lets say the home page which would read like "discounted widgets & other widgets by widget company"

Way too many "widgets" in that title. You can no additional benefit from repeating words, but it does reduce the effectiveness of the others.

Hehe I'd turn that title into "Widget discount"
But it's partly a subjective thing |

Go for a title that is descriptive and accurate. It will not hurt rankings by having that.

I just used widgets as a catch all so you can insert random keywords. |

You mean widget1 != widget2 != widget3 in that title?

I have tested repeated keywords in the title as a low probability event in Google Top 10. Also, my personal preferences I go for a descriptive title. It is so annoying to read repeating keywords especially if there are ways to shorten it. Looks spammy though. |

Ok it seems the I have confused people with that example title. so here is another title that you can look at: "Search Engine Marketing & Optimization by company name" Replace company name with a companies name. :-) |
