Currently working on a new build where the developers are looking to use swfir to style some of the headings.
Basically this means they can use the same custom font side-wide. Now call me a traditionalist but I prefer good old html links for my headings, anyone had experience using swfir? would you recommend it or steer clear due to its 'flash' nature? If anyone could post the URL as i'm not allowed due to new status, will contribute more to avoid this next time |

One last time...
From what you're describing, it looks like you mean sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacment). swfIR appears to be used for creating visual effects on images, while sIFR is for using a custom font that visitors don't have. sIFR does work well SEO-wise because for visitors that don't allow Flash, such as spiders, the regular text is still displayed. For visitors that do allow Flash, the custom text overlaps whatever you are replacing (usually limited to headers from what I know in order to limit the size of the Flash file). Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Last edited by Roa : July 15th, 2008 at 11:29 AM. |

simple image replacement. Just make sure you place keyword text links in the content. Having an image based nav bar is not so bad.

The site its going on is pretty heavyweight and has been round for a long time (meaning strong ranking factors on and off page).
Cheers though as its good to double check these things! |
