yisrael:
to answer your question a different way. googlebot visits my site and does a deep crawl every single morning. if i add a new page today...it is typically indexed by the end of next day. i have never submitted my site to ask.com. jill may be 100% correct. i am sure she would not say it was true unless it is true or was true at one time or another. however...i do not participate in the seo 'school of thought' that includes site submittals to search engines...particularly if a 'fee' is involved. the method we are suggesting is a long-term solution. i believe in long-term seo...not some benefit thats terminates the day you stop paying for it like buying links or paying for daily submittals. call it a bias or whatever you want...but that is why you are getting the answer that you are getting. .

rz and ChatMaster agreeing... there is going to be a full moon tonight.
Yisreal, another small bit: I have never paid for submission or submitted myself to a search engine, but Google dropped by site to say hello 61 times yesterday. No amount of money can buy me that.

Thank you all for your feedback.
I agree with you that paying $40 to Ask is not a long-term solution. But at this point, I am not looking for a long-term solution. I am only looking for a tool that will let me see if my tweaks to my URL are affecting rankings. Now you all say that getting good links to my site will do the same thing for free. I believe you. But I don't know how to do that. So how do I? Won't it take hours and days of research, emailing requests, etc., to get good links to my site? I don't mind doing that for the long-term. But right now, I'd like to work on tweaking my text first, and I'd like to see the results immediately. That is the reason for my wishing to go with Ask.com. So if getting good incoming links to my site is easier and quicker than what I believe, I'd be grateful to hear your tips. |

You could try somewhere like Link Partners to find some relevent sites and ask to exchange links. Another thing, which has been said before on these forums, is to check out your competitors. Find out who is linking to them and ask them to link to you too.

I know it may be a little off-topic but reciprocal linking is good or bad ?
I read somewhere that one should hide the outgoing links in javascript or server-side script ? What do you think ? |

The best thing for search engines is to hide the links in server side javascript. That way they are useful for search engines and your visitors.
