Subfolder or root for new pages?

what do you guys think is better:

writing new pages in a subfolder and having the pages in the root?

    for example:

    www.domainname.com/subfoldername/page_title.html

    or

    www.domainname.com/page_title.html

    please advise

    thanks

I prefer staying close to the root, but your actual file structure doesn't matter as much as how many links away from home page it is.

Lets say you sold furntiure, and your new page offered a little girls bedroom set.

A link from your home page pointing to yoursite.com/bedroom/children/girls.html would probably list better than a link from home page, to bedroom furniture section, to childrens sets section, to little girls decor which resides at yoursite.com/little-girls-bedroom-furniture.html
