Hi. I am new here and think is a greate place, greetings to all. Now, I would like to know which strategies should be avoided because google can penalize your site as a result of using them.
I have read so much stuff and now i am not sure which are legal or not.

This is very general... you have to read around and decide for yourself.

Avoid linking to bad neighborhood, spamming, refresh tags, cloaking...
