Spiders and "onClick"
Hello -
I was wondering if a spider will follow an "onclick" type link off of a page. I was hoping that it would not to help funnel PR. The set of links I am using are based on <a href="#" onClick="window.open('target-page.htm','newWnd','width=xxx,height=xxx,toolbar=0 ,status=0,scrollbars=0,resizable=0')">Target Keyword</A> Funneling is not the main reason for this particular structure but it would be a nice side benefit. Any suggestions on a link structure that is not followed by a spider. Thanks Arnold |

Spiders tend not to follow JS links. But if the JS links are fairly clean, the spider might.
So JS is the best method to go.

My understanding is not at all - however, can you provide an example of a "fair clean JavaScript link"... not following you here.

fathom, I have no proof that a spider can follow a JS link. I just have heard cases of them following very clean JS links with the URL clearly written out.
But again, I have no proof. If you do not want the spider to follow, the rule is to use JavaScript. |

Rustybrick and Fathom - for someone like myself who is not that accomplished at SEO can you tell me if a spider will follow my example.
Thanks Arnold |

Agree anything that has <a href="#" rather than a n actual URL is not natural.
Note: bad coding tends to allow bots to crawl what would normally be "JavaScript" not the bots ability to actually parse JavaScript. |
