Spider Trap?
Hello,
I have been searching Google, to see what the competition has done in terms of SEO, so I know what's ahead of me. When I was doing this search I noticed one company is using this tactic. Something to do with SPIDER TRAP? <!-- spider trap --> <a href="/mls/bad.html" onclick="return false" onmouseover="window.status='Do not follow this link, or your host will be blocked from this site. This is a spider trap.'"> <!-- end spider trap --> What is this? The actual site, mls.ca is terribly seo'd and I am afraid to view the url indicated as they say u will be banned. Is this a lawfull tactic to use when optimizing for Google? Thanks and all advice/help/input much appreciated.

Spider Trap
Critter, just answered this question. In response to if this is illegal or unlawful or such, the answer is NO WAY. Its actually a very proactive measure on the webmaster's part to control which robots crawl which parts of the site and identify those that are misbehaving.
