Several domains for 1 site....

Hi, this is my first post of many to come. Nice site.

I got a question about using domains. What is a good way to redirect multiple domains to one website? I have about 40 domains for one of my sites. I don't want the domains doing nothing, but is redirecting them to my site, or sub-domains/directories a bad idea?. Can that hurt me in search engines?. Is there a good way and a bad way?.

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi Ryan:

There is a good way to redirect pages. It is by using what is called a 301 (page moved permanently) redirect. With a 301 redirect, the search engines will know that the redirected domain and the landing page are the same thing and will transfer link weight and Pagerank from the redirected domain to the landing page. You can create a 301 redirect easily from your web host's control panel, or if you don't have a hosting account for the redirected domain, by using the URL forwarding option of your domain registrar.

Redirected domains are a good idea if they are memorable, or if they contain your preferred keywords (which will actually help you with the search engines). I myself use a redirected domain (http://www.theinternetdigest.net ) to point to the physicall location of my site (http://www.accordmarketing.com/tid/ ).

You can find a good article about redirected domains in this URL:

Good luck,

Mario Sanchez
