SEO Tips, Suggestions or Ideas for a UK Dating Site

Hi Everyone (Happy Sunday),

I've just recreated the splash screen for a dating site (details below) and just wondered if any of you experts had any up-to-date documents (or tips) on optimising it.

I've done the basics with the meta tags, submitted it to google but really would like to start trying to get it listed on all the relevant places.

Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions or help.

The site is called Boyfriend Boutique but unfortunately I can't put a link in here.

Thanks

karl

Depends on what you want to do with it, whether you are creating a brand business or targeting specific keywords, this will determine how your on page seo will be laid out, although personally would optimize for both.

Have you decided whether you are going to backlink keywords or brand, not an easy choice to make?

@artofmagik - Surely you'd do both!? It would be a pretty poor business model for a start up to ontly target brand terms or industry terms.

@ OP - You need to be more specific about what your asking for. Do you want to be paying a pro for SEO services? Or are you wanting to do your own SEO.

If it's the later then read the stickies and ask specific questions about the things you need help with. There is no 'guide' that you can follow, it's an ongoing learning process.

Thanks for your replies.

I suppose I should start by looking at my immediate competition and looking to see why they're featuring high on Google and plan some unique terms/phrases which I can do the same with.

Yes, it will be an ongoing self SEO project to get more hits and subscribers.

What I was getting at was in relation to backlinks, do you use your brand name for the backlink or use keywords like "dating" for example.

This is a hard choice to make, in some instances it might be better to target specific keywords anchors in backlinks, other times it might be better to use brand name for keywords.

It is really hard to say what to do in this instance, i went with keywording backlinks but also promoted brand via 125 social networking sites, going to also use youtube this year, other promo stuff to hopefully one day have a worthy brand.

Got to get the seo on site done first, still working on that, have been for weeks.

I need to read up on exactly what you mean with regards to backlinks using the brand name or keywords.

What I'm doing at the minute is contacting relevant bloggers via 'Blogs by Women' asking if they want to share their content on Boyfriend Boutique. There are a lot of really good ones like Wing Girl Method who is happy to do some guest blogging and seems to quite like what I'm doing.

I think it's best to focus on populating the boyfriend boutique blog with a lot of interesting articles and just go down the content route using tags like dating, attract women etc. but I'd be interested to hear your advice on this.

I'm also submitting any new blog posts on twitter using the link to the main dating site rather than straight to the blog article as there is a blog button on there.

Not sure what to do in the Social Networking Sites. Assuming most of the people I wish to contact are already on Facebook.

As already said, any helpful tips would be gratefully received.

Karl

Start linkbuilding and try to get relevent links instead of bunch of irrelevent links.

Facebook is only one way of gaining traffic, not so much for contacting people more so to spread your brand awareness, you will also get some traffic via this, make it look proffessional on each account leaving your url.

Once your unique url from social networking sites goes it cannot be obtained, should you ever create a powerful brand these sites will be useful and will certainly bring traffic.

These urls will be snatched up in a heart beat, hence i signed up for about 90% of the following sites on here.
