SEO tips for blogs?

I have a website I've created and have some good content on there for software installation design and development. My challenge is that I'd like it to be listed in various search engines so that people know I'm out there.

I've used various tools and the keywords I currently have in the meta tags for my front page are horrible (only about 20% relevancy).

My question is as follows...

How do I take a website whose front page is rather dynamic (it's a blog so there are updates several times a week) and make sure that the keywords are applicable?

If you want to look at the site it's listed in my profile.

I've noticed that search engines are hitting the main page - they're just not going any deeper than the index.htm for some reason.

Finally, I've heard that guestbooks are "poison" for search engines. I currently do have a guestbook but don't want to get banned from the search engines - should I remove it or is this something I don't need to worry about?

Thanks for any and all help in advance!

Do you have robot.txt in root of your website that may have a seeting telling SE not to spider or meta tag "robots" staying not to spider? to other pages.

That would be a couple of things I would check to see why SE are not going past your index page.

I do have a robots.txt file but it's not telling it to not look at all my new files.
