Question SEO for a Video site

Hi,

Im one of the web developers for a video site. The site has been running for over a 2 months now and our stats are showing that hte majority of our traffic is coming from our sister sites, rather than search engines.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend ways of improving rankings on serps for pages that mostly feature a video (usually a flash player).

Thanks in advance

Search engines don't know what's in the video, you have to tell them. Do the pages have descriptive textual content about the video? descriptive <h1>? Title tag? Alt tags?

Yes, we do have titles, descriptions, tags larger descriptions. However, because the page is much like youtube in the way its set up. There is very little textual content as we want the feature to be the video.

I was wondering if there are any SEO tricks for video. Like how do you get google to add it to their video search, etc.

If you are using flash media, do what Youtube does...

Use html text links for navigation because it will help Googlebot crawls your entire video site.

While providing only flash for video. make sure your entire is crawlable.

This isn't video specific but get links to your pages!

Another method might be to offer an embed or link to this video for which you would get a back link pointing to your site.

Obviously the page the video on would be relevnat to your own video page, this you would get a relevant link which is very good for SEO.

Add a description on your individual videos (if that's possible for you) so that SEs will have an idea about your page/ site.. links could also help you promote it as mentioned by tstolber
