Question SEO Books??

Hi,

Been working with SEO for a while now on a personal level, and recently had a chance to showcase my abilities to a company who has hired me.

What are some excellent books for optimization of Google, yahoo, or every search engine? I understand SEO is constantly evolving and most of what is in older books will not be applicable now.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

congratulations on your new job

In my opinion forums like this and discussing the topic with people in the SEO community are the most beneficial methods of learning and keeping up to date with current trends and thinking.

Their are very few printed books on seo, and yes most of them are outdated. Most of what I have learned has come from this community, seomoz.org and seobook.com - Use these three sources and you will learn seo pretty fast. I can't think of a better way to learn seo.

Yep, I've been using SEOmoz and scanning this forum as a guest for a while, but just now have posted for the first time. Thanks for the tips, and I hope to start contributing more once I start and dive into things.

You have come to the right place. Before SEOCHAT I knew nothing, I actually didnt even know html four years ago.

Just be sure that your client also understands that you are learning taht is my only advice, they will appreciate your honesty.

That is what I did, I worked for a company for two years and optomized their four websites they knew I didnt know jack when I started but after two years of work and two years of being away from them those first four sites still rank in the top 5 on G. for their keywords.

All thanks to SEOCHAT'S members and the many many resources taht can be found by looking through these forums.

Seo book

I recently bought the SEO book and from what I see it has little more information than can be had here and other SEO forums for free, but I have not been able to look through the whole thing yet.

There were however a few topics talked about in the book that I did not find easily here. This does not mean they have not been discussed here but I have not been able to find threads yet.

The nice thing about any book is it can be used as an instant reference and you see the answer to your question where in a forum there is a lag period and you are liable to get answers to anything but your question, which can be frustrating at the least. Plus complaining about free information make you look like a dork.

The reason I was looking for a book is not to find out what to do but rather to find out what not to do. In other words I did not want to shoot my self in the foot with bad practices.

One thing about the SEO book is it is updated frequently, but there are some statements made in the book and on the website that make me a bit uncomfortable.

All that said publishing an E Book is as easy as typing it out and posting the info. And so you end up with something that may have content which is not fully vetted. On the other hand, publishing a paper book cost a great deal more so in general the information tends to be checked before printing.
Unfortunately the very nature and ebb and flow of information on the Internet make paper books useless in a relatively short period of time.

Use the book as a point of reference.
Use the forums to brain storm ideas.
Pay a professional for some consultation time.
Hang on to your hat.

I disagree. Generally that would be true but Aaron Wall is a well respected seo and he deserves that respect. The information found in his book is all totally valid, whether it can be found here or not.

BTW the seo book being referred to here is seobook.com (the e-book) in case anyone didn't know.

I would totally recommend it to anyone.

Not that anybody cares, but I 'll be launching an SEO book in the Fall. It's not quite as easy as 'typing it up'. I'll be focusing my efforts more on the business marketing aspects of SEO in an attempt to offer it some more legitimacy in the mainstream business world. Should be a freaking doozy.

Yes, your right. In some cases this is so. There obviously is a ton of information in this book.
I would never use this forum to dis anyone or a product.
