Question SEO and Subdomains

We are looking to launch a sub-domain for a section of our site. What are the pros/cons to launching a subdomain for a part of a site rather than integrating it into the site iteself

ie: (profiles.mysite.com)
or: (www.mysite.com/profiles)

Cheers for the help.

Pros:

You can use the keyword phrase in the subdomain
You separate out all that content for ease of management

Cons:

Google recognises it as a subdomain, not a separate site and will judge the importance of that content accordingly. It's only a minor thing though.

I never managed to get any PR for a subdomain, there's something dodgy about them and me going on

I think integrated domain is better than sub-domain.
