Search Engine Submission Techniques

There is no point in optimizing your website for the search engines if the search engines don’t even know you’re there. This article discusses search engine submission and its do’s and don’ts.

Free vs paid listings

It’s still possible to get listed in most of the search engines (and directories) for free, but ‘free’ inclusion often comes with a hidden cost: delayed indexing, if at all. When you’re looking to get listed on search engines as soon as possible, you need to start thinking of using paid listings. Google, for example, has a paid listing system (AdWords) that helps new websites that are not indexed by Google yet to get instant exposure on a wide scale. Overture has a similar implementation.

Paid listings give you a head start in terms of instant visibility. If you intelligently continue your SEO, your link building campaign would start to show positive results by the first month or so. The extra exposure afforded by paid listings combined with a variety of inbound links (extremely important for new websites, as Google themselves say on their website) helps you get your website in search engine results a lot quicker.

Funny, the conclusion leads to some automatic submission tools which will submit your site to 1000's of SE (and those tools isn't free). Automatic submission tools are DON'Ts, not do. Post your misleading article somewhere else.

I believe that submiting to search engines is a total waste of time. It's quicker to get as many quality backlinks as possible, then the search engine spiders will find you soon enough.

From the soon to be posted FAQ:

14.)Should I use submission software to make sure all the search engines have me included?
A: Most submission programs that promise to "Submit Your Site to 1000's of Search Engines" are used to harvest your email address for spammers. The truth is there are only a handful of Search Engines used by enough people to justify a submission and these can all be submitted by hand. Even better yet is to get other sites to link to you. Search Engine spiders follow these links and you will be indexed naturally. Submission programs are unnecessary and may actually hurt you
